Calen Addison was a 2nd overall pick in the WHL Bantam Draft, selected by the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He went just behind New Jersey draft pick and 1st overall pick, Ty Smith. With Calen, he was also selected into the NHL this past Entry Draft, selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2nd round.
This season, Calen has been averaging around a 1.0 point per game on what seems to be a strong Lethbridge group. With the recent additions of Nick Henry and Jake Leschyshyn to add to the core of Dylan Cozens and Jordy Bellerive, I’d expect them to go deep into the WHL playoffs this year. Calen currently tops defenseman on the team in goals, assists and points.
It would have been great to see how well Calen plays during the World Junior Championships which is currently being played in Vancouver/ Victoria this year. It’s a big honor to be considered, especially for Team Canada who usually has a ton of fantastic choices for player personnel. Unfortunately, Calen was one of the final cuts from this years’ Team Canada. Since it’s being played on home soil this year, I’d expect a ton of excitement in the locker rooms to be able to play in front of the Canadian crowd.
Gettin’ the auto
I got this autograph in about two months which was sent to the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Calen this card with a black sharpie but it looks like the pen has seen some better days. You can tell that the ink is starting to dry out a bit but still happy with how it turned out!
Sometimes you gotta wonder if the makers from Upper Deck would try and get a picture of the player smiling. I haven’t watched Calen play this season but maybe that’s his “I’m playing hockey” face.
Who is the happiest guy you’ve ever seen on a hockey card?
All eyes this December will be around Addison and Team Canada!
