Todays’ blog post brings Mark Streit who recently retired from the Montreal Canadiens this year. He formerly captained the NY Islanders as well as the Swiss team in International play. It’s truly unbelievable how much he has represented his National team, year after year. Between 1995 – 2015, he only missed three years (2008, 2011, 2013) which I can assume it was attributed to missing the playoffs or a really early playoff exit.
It’s awesome to see that for someone that played in the league and was as effective as he was, that he was able to lift the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2016/17 NHL season. That year, Streit played in 3 games, registering 2 points. While I’m sure Mark would have preferred to have been much more involved in winning the Stanley Cup that year.
I sent my letter to Mark this year and was lucky enough to get it back, shortly after he announced his retirement. Could this have been one of the last cards he ever signed as an active player? Perhaps!

My first blog post in a really, really, really long time. Let’s get his show on the road! Mike Dean Bossy is one the great players to have played hockey. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991 and has a bevy of hockey records to his name. I’m super excited to have gotten his return back and according to my records, I may have sent this one wayyyyy back in Feb 2011. It’ll take a while to see what has returned or not but I’m going to try to track my returns a bit better than I had done in the past. Here are a few of Mike’s records from his time in the NHL that he achieved:
- Goals, career: 21st all-time with 573; only Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky reached 500 in fewer games
- Goals, regular season and playoffs combined, one season: seventh all-time with 85 (was a record at the time it was achieved)
- Assists by a right wing, one season: second all-time with 83 (was a record at the time it was achieved)
- Points by a right wing, one season: second all time with 147 (was a record at the time it was achieved)

A sweet autograph pickup autograph I purchased online from ebay. Calvin De Haan is a great NY Islanders prospects who was drafted 12th overall in 2009 entry draft. He’s likely to hit the NHL circuit soon, perhaps when the lockout ends or in the next season. Another year in the AHL seems to be the prescription for this guy for now. Calvin signed this card in a great silver sharpie. Beautiful!

Oh, a surprise return from Glenn Healy. I got this return, not even knowing I had sent it out (actually to be fair, my girlfriend sent it out :D). I didn’t keep track of this one, but I’m happy to have gotten a return. He never really played a full season in the NHL, but is now still heavily involved with CBC/TSN and commentating on hockey games. Thanks for the return Glenn!

Sweet! I’m really excited about this return as I’ve liked John Tavares ever since he was drafted into the NHL. He was a key contributer to Team Canada winning gold in 2008 and 2009. He amassed a staggering 15 points in 2009, scoring 8 goals and getting 7 assists. John added my name on to this card, but I’m just as happy as I got his auto! Thanks a bunch!

Holy cow! A great autograph from Matt Martin in about a month! You can’t really get much better than that (ok, I can think about 30 other response times which you can do better)! Matt has been a great player for the NY Islanders and is a great rookie. I hope he and Tavares can help the Islanders regain their winning ways.

An autograph from hall of fame player Bryan Trottier is really something! Bryan was inducted into the HHOF in 1997 along side Mario Lemieux and Glen Sather. His autograph was attained at a London Drugs in Vancouver. I do have to write that I didn’t get these myself, but my girlfriend got these for me. Thanks for waiting =D.
