Another day, another post. This blog post brings you Jacob Trouba of the Winnipeg Jets. Jacob is a great defenseman that was selected in the 1st round, 9th overall. He’s done extremely well, year over year, making improvements and forcing the coaching staff to give him more responsibility. Unfortunately, Jacob suffered an ankle injury which will keep him out of the lineup for roughly 6 – 8 weeks of the season.
I sent this card to Jacob via the Winnipeg Jets this season and got it back within 103 days. I’ve always been an advocate of sending Jets players fan mail thru the team as I’ve seen a number of their top players send back fan mail, players such as Patrik Laine, Blake Wheeler and Josh Morrisey.
Zach Redmond is currently part of the Buffalo Sabres organization, playing for the Rochester Americans in the AHL. He was drafted 184th overall in the 2008 NHL draft by the Atlanta Thrashers, a draft that produced superstars like Steven Stamkos (1st overall), Drew Doughty (2), Erik Karlsson (15) and Roman Josi (38). As many hockey fans know, the Atlanta Thrashers had a very, very poor showing the first year they were allowed to draft prospects, having chosen Patrik Stefan, 1st overall.
The Atlanta Thrashers only lasted 11 years in the league, relocating to Winnipeg, where only two of the draft picks that Atlanta had once chosen are now players on the Jets team, Bryan Little and Tobias Enstrom. As for Zach, he did not remain with the team, going the free agent route, signing with the Colorado Avalanche, then Montreal Canadiens and now finally landing with the Buffalo Sabres.

Nikolai signed my hockey card with a full autograph and it looks really great! It was pretty fun as we were getting his autograph because someone made a comment that it was nicer outside today (for the record, it was pretty cloudy and cold). Nikolai then slowly looked up and said “oohhh….”. It was probably a lot more funny than what I’ve written here…

The current coach of the Anahiem Ducks, is Randy Carlyle, who had played in the NHL before his coaching duties. He began his NHL career in Toronto in 1976/77 season before being traded in to Pittsburgh where he enjoyed his best seasons. He recorded career-highs of 67 assists and 83 points, won the Norris Trophy and voted to the NHL First All-Star Team. I think some of the hounders had made him angry as he made a comment about how they’re annoying him!
