Autographed Upper Deck hockey card signed via TTM by Charlie Simmer of Team Canada

Retired hockey player, Charlie Simmer, signed a few of his hockey cards for me when I sent them to a private address I got off one of the hockey forums I frequent. While I never personally watched Charlie play (he was an 80s player!), he clearly was a high scoring forward, having notched back to back 100+ point seasons with 50+ goals in each of those seasons. What’s more impressive in each of those 100+ point seasons was that he only played 64 and 65 games.

Unfortunately for Charlie, he only helped the Kings to the post season three of the eight seasons he played for the team and only played in 24 playoff games total.  Charlie actually accumulated quite the number of achievements during his career as a pro NHL player, which I’ve listed below.

Awards and achievements

MJHL First All-Star Team (1973)
MJHL Scoring Champion (1973)
Holds the highest career scoring percentage in NHL history for a player playing in at least 700 games.
Played in NHL All-Star Game in 1981 and 1984.
Named to NHL First All-Star Team in 1980 and 1981.
Won the Bill Masterton Trophy in 1986.
Named to the Central Hockey League’s Second All-Star Team in 1977.
Named to the American Hockey League’s Second All-Star Team in 1978.
Scored goals in thirteen consecutive games in 1980, the longest such streak since Punch Broadbent’s still unbroken record of sixteen in 1922.
