From a CHL player to a hockey alumni, today’s post brings you Gilles Gilbert, an NHL starting goaltender that played in the 70s/80s. If you’ve been following along from past blog posts, it’s clear that I wasn’t even born yet to watch Gilles play as I started to watch games in the 90s.
The one thing I do want to point out is the absolute amazing penmanship here. Gilles signed this Between the Pipes hockey card that was produced by ITG hockey a couple of years ago and he definitely did not disappoint. The curves and attention to each letter in his name really makes this signature outstanding and one of my favourite autographs of all time.
I really appreciate the time Gilles spent writing this out and sending me an additional postcard with his autograph on it too.
Gilles is most known for his goaltending abilities which was showcased with the Boston Bruins between 1973 – 1980 where he amassed 155 wins and 73 losses in that span. In 1976, Gerry Cheevers and Gilles formed one of the best goaltending duos in the NHL at that time.
