James Phelan, currently playing for the Texas Stars, is a CHL graduate, having played for three junior hockey teams. Initially drafted into the CHL in 2013 by the Shawinigan Cataractes, playing two and a half season for the club. He scored a total of 43 points during his tenure with the team.
On December 20, 2015, Gabriel Gagné of Baie-Comeau Drakkar was traded for forward James Phelan and a third-round pick in 2016. This is where James really exploded his point totals, amassing 15 points in the second half of the season. For the 2016/17 QMJHL season, he took on a leadership role, being anointed the “A” and resulted in third in team scoring.
Unfortunately for James, he was yet again traded around the new year of 2018, first to Val-D’or and then flipped again to the Moncton Wildcats.
I wish James all the best as he signed a new, one-year contract with the Texas Stars in April of this year.
Gettin’ the auto
As with a few of my previous posts regarding CHL players, I directly messaged James to see if I could get his autograph on this card. Luckily for me, he obliged! He sent this card back to me in an extremely short amount of time, 17 days! He signed this card for me in a blue sharpie and as usual, inscribing his jersey number on the card.
I had a bit of a tough time trying to find a non-french article regarding James! James is participating in the Traverse City Tournament which consists of the Stars, Blue Jackets, Hawks, Red Wings, Blues, Hurricanes, Wild & Rangers.
A video review of James Phelan
A nice fight between Cooper Jones and James which I thought was quite spirited! I’m surprised that James didn’t hurt himself more considering it looks like he fell somewhat hard on his head.
