Jordan was selected in 2006 to the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin formed a dangerous trio down the middle of the ice for many years. This sort of depth at center is really what teams should be focusing on, although Pittsburgh had a string of being in a very fortunate circumstance. They had the opportunity to select:
- Top goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury first overall in 2003
- Selecting 2nd overall to pick Malkin in 2004
- Winning the “Crosby Sweepstakes” in 2005
- Jordan Staal 2nd overall in 2006
Jordan won in 2009 after losing the previous year to the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Unfortunately for the core of the Penguins, Jordan was dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes. He immediately signed a 10 year deal with the Canes after the trade.
Gettin’ the auto
The third of four brothers to play pro hockey, Jordan Staal returned this nicely signed jersey card to me. He’s signed a few items for me in the past, in fact, all brothers have signed things that I’ve sent to them. This is just is fantastic for autograph collectors like myself. As you can see above, there was a slight bend in the card which I totally chalk up to the fact that things get bent in the mail. What can ya do?
