Gotta love this Kevin Dineen autograph since he means absolutely so much to Hockey Canada and this country. While he was never considered a superstar while in the NHL, he’s helped bring Gold to Canada. In a sport where International hockey has typically been dominated by Canada or the USA, especially in Women’s hockey, there is a tremendous amount of pressure on these athletes and coaches.
In his time in the NHL, Kevin started with the Hartford Whalers and performed, by far, the best with an NHL team he had in his entire career. He scored 65% of his points with the team in only 49% of his games with the club.
After the 1989/90 season, Kevin posted his lowest point totals since his rookie season. Sixteen games into the next season, Kevin was traded for Murray Baron and a 4th round pick. For Kevin, his point production increased and finished only behind Rod Brind’Amour when the season ended. Unfortunately for the team and Kevin, they only managed to make the playoffs once during Kevin’s tenure with the team.
Kevin would finish his career 2002/03 with Columbus, playing only four games that NHL season before retiring from his playing career.
Luckily, Kevin has found tremendous success as a coach, highlighted by his gold medal winning coaching performance in 2014. This led the Canadian Women’s hockey team to a fourth consecutive Olympic Gold Medal.
