Once again, we have a post from a great player in Mikko Koivu. Mikko is of Finnish decent and is the current captain of the Minnesota Wild. Mikko is no stranger for being a leader (see below) as he’s also captained Team Finland in International competition.
In International competition, he’s helped Team Finland win silver at the 2006 Turin Olympics and Bronze at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. He’s helped the team win gold on two occasions. The first at the World Juniors U-18 in 2000 and again at the World Championships in 2011. What’s even more amazing is that Mikko had medals in his first 11 International events he’s participated in. The streak was eventually broken in 2012 when Team Finland placed 4th overall.
On the NHL stage, he has a bit more work to do when it comes to winning the Holy Grail. Much of his entire career has been plagued with early 1st round exits or non-playoff teams, all with the Minnesota Wild. Luckily for Mikko, the team has managed to make the playoffs the last six consecutive years and I fully expect them to continue the trend this year.
Gettin’ the Auto
This isn’t the first time I’ve gotten an autograph from the Minnesota draft pick. I got a Mikko Koivu autograph back in 2012, when I was full entrenched in the hobby. I sent this card to Mikko through a private address that I found on a forum. Luckily, it still works and he signed just like he has 6 years ago.
