While the playoffs are still happening, let’s throw in a quick post about one of the best players in the Q right now. The Acadie-Bathurst Titan, who are currently 12 – 3 in the playoffs at this time, are challenging the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada for the league’s top trophy, the President’s Cup. The Titan have gotten to this point by going through Chicoutimi Sagueneens, Sherbrooke Phoenix and the Victoriaville Tigres. I don’t think there was much doubt going into the playoffs as both the Armada (1st) and the Titans (2nd) were top ranked teams in the Q during the regular season.

The first of the new CHL Upper Deck hockey cards is signed by Mitchell Balmas, currently playing for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. He was acquired by the Titan through a trade in December which brought Balmas and a 2020 3rd round pick for 2 1st (2018 / 2020) and Dawson Theede. Balmas, at the time, was leading the Olympiques in scoring with 37 points in 35 games and just came off scoring a hat trick in Gatineau’s outdoor game against the Ottawa 67’s.  For those who don’t follow closely to the Q, Mitchell was traded to the Titan via the Olympiques this past trading deadline, something he was familiar with during the last playoffs as he was traded from the Charlottetown Islanders to the Gatineau Olympiques in 2017. He’s done very well and currently ranks 39th on the top point-getters (is that even a word?) in the league but surely that’ll rise as the series goes on. It’ll be tough though considering that the top 3 players in points all are from the BLB.

At 20, he’s currently an undrafted player although it remains to be seen how Mitchell handles this adversity, if he desires to get into the NHL.
