I am a big fan of the West Vancouver native, Morgan Rielly. He is a fantastic defenseman that currently mans the blue line in Toronto. Morgan has represented Canada on a number of occasions, beginning in 2011. At the IH18 tournament, he helped Canada win gold, as well as in the WC in 2016.
Morgan was originally drafted out of the WHL where he excelled with the Moose Jaw Warriors. In his three season with the club, he didn’t post staggering numbers although that didn’t stop the Leafs from selecting him. He ended up being selected 5th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
During his NHL career, he’s increased his point total each of the seasons he has played. This past season, he finished with 52 points, 46 of those being helpers. It’s clear he’s made it as a player that the Leafs can (and will) rely on. With the recent addition of John Tavares to a star studded forward lineup, Morgan will be the anchor that leads the blue line.
One big question is, can Morgan Rielly win a Norris and bring Toronto it’s first trophy?
See this article by John Tessler from Editor In Leaf who believes that Morgan has a fantastic chance at winning it this year.
Gettin’ the auto
I got Morgan Rielly’s autograph in 144 days, during the NHL offseason. I actually consider this to be a fairly quick turnaround time for an NHL player to return fan mail.
A video review of Morgan Rielly
Watch the video below on the Toronto Maple Leafs selection in the draft. It’s interesting to see some of the names before him on “Bob’s Best Available” list and if I were to choose between Mat Dumba and Morgan Rielly, I’d choose Rielly for sure.
