Pavel Gogolev hails from Moskva – also known as Moscow, Russia. This is the same hometown as NHL players like Alexander Ovechkin, Sergei Zubov and Alexei Zhamnov. Although Pavel was not drafted this past NHL Entry Draft, he was invited to the Detroit Red Wings training camp. He apparently showed well but ultimately was sent back to his junior team, the Peterborough Petes.
This season, he’s started off well, netting 7 points in 10 games. I’d fully expect Pavel to hit at least 50 points, surpassing his point totals from last year. It’s pretty typical for players, at the junior level, to exceed totals from the previous season. Even Connor McDavid surpassed his season totals (66, 99, 120 in each of his three seasons with the Erie Otters).
So far, the Petes are doing well – led by captain Zach Gallant and currently sitting first in the East Division as of October 18th. Considering they didn’t make the playoffs last year, it’d be great for the guys to get some post season action!
Gettin’ the auto
The quickest return I’ve gotten back from a team in a long time! This one was signed by Pavel Gogolev in 15 days. That’s pretty impressive considering that mail time, typically is processed for four days one way in Canada. Of course, not all players receive a ton of mail although now that these CHL hockey cards are out, more fans have the opportunity to have something signed!
A video review of Pavel Gogolev
A great highlight back that I watched to see a bit more of Pavel.
