Sven Baertschi has been a pleasant surprise for many Canucks fans. He was casted away from the Calgary Flames for a 2015 2nd round draft pick (Rasmus Andersson) in a trade that drew mixed reviews. Of course, the debate of whether Vancouver should have kept the second round pick and pick Rasmus themselves will still require a handful more years to evaluate the quality of the trade. Considering the talent that Vancouver requires on the backend, that may not have been a bad decision.
Sven has yet to really produce this season, scoring all three points in a single game recently although the entire line of the “Killer B’s” require to be better. At this point in the season, Horvat, Boeser and Baertschi have a total of seven points as of October 11, 2018. As a comparison, rookie sensation Elias Pettersson has 6 points himself. Of course, he’s a rookie sensation for a reason.
I’d hope that things do look up as Sven can be a very serviceable player in the future for the Canucks. He’s young and fits right into the mix of players that will bring this organization to better days.
Gettin’ the auto
A great signature from one of the players fitting in nicely to the Vancouver organization. I had sent Sven a request for an autograph earlier in the year, January 1st to be exact via the Vancouver Canucks. I thought this card was possibly long gone as I’d figure that half a season is good enough for a player to respond. Clearly I was wrong and sent my mail back to me at the end of September.
Sven had a bit of a tough start to the season – having been sick but now he’s back and had a great game vs the Hurricanes on October 9, 2018.
