Willie Mitchell has to be one of my favourite hockey players to have suited up for the Vancouver Canucks. While he’s long gone from the game, I’ll always remember how he just seemed to scream leadership whenever he took the ice. He was cool, calm and collected when defending the other teams’ top players. Of course, Vancouver wasn’t his only stop in his career having gone through a dozen teams throughout his time in the NHL. For his last remaining years in the league, he was the captain of the Florida Panthers.
Although Willie never posted staggering numbers, you could never question he was able to get it done. I’ll never forget that he was considered a potential health risk due to the concussions he suffered during his tenure with the Canucks. Thankfully, the Kings did pick him up and you could say the rest is history. He won two Stanley Cups with the LA Kings in 2012 and 2014.
It’s nice that Willie has gone on to enjoy the great outdoors which if you’ve seen on any of his posts, he loves! He runs a marina which he currently co-owns with Dan Hamhuis out in Tofino.
Gettin’ the auto
Another quick return to me but this time, this wasn’t from a CHL player! Former NHL veteran, Willie Mitchell sent this one back to me in 18 days. This card was signed and sealed back to me via Mitchell’s Tofino Marina. I thought I had sent him an LA Kings patch card but I believe he kept it, which is okay with me!
I love how there are so many links on this player! Nice to see he’s giving back to the community where he grew up in.
A video review of Willie Mitchell
Willie plays with one of the longest sticks in the NHL – although he was accused of playing with an illegal stick at one point
